All About Himalayan Salt Lamps

Himalayan Salt Lamps are not only very beautiful, but they can be found to beneficial when used inside your home! They come in all shapes, sizes, and colors, making them a perfect addition to almost any style of home decor. So what is it exactly that they do that makes them beneficial?

Benefits of Using Salt Lamps

Himalayan Salt Lamps are natural ion generators, emitting negative ions into the air surrounding them. Negative ions restore and neutralize air quality. These negative ions have been linked to improved health and improved quality of life. To put it simply, negative ions make you feel good! Our homes and offices are filled with appliances and electronics such as televisions, computers, microwaves, and fluorescent lighting. The presence of these devices have been shown to lower our energy levels, making us feel tired, cranky and depressed… all because of their emissions of positive ions. Keeping a Himalayan Salt Lamp in areas where positive ions are polluting the air will help neutralize the air you breathe, help and get you back to feeling your best! Balancing positive and negative ions can also help reduce airborne allergens. Thanks to salt’s natural properties of being anti-bacterial, anti-microbial, and anti-viral, Himalayan Salt Lamps also can help purify the air in your home.

How to Effectively Use a Salt Lamp

The number one tip for getting the most out of your salt lamp is to leave it on 24/7 in a room or area where you spend the most of your time. Salt Lamps are hygroscopic, meaning they draw in water. When not used properly, they tend to collect and “leak” water. A little leaking is normal and nothing to worry about, however its best to keep the lamps as dry as possible. Keeping your lamp on keeps it warm, and in turn will evaporate any water that collects on the surface. Himalayan Salt Lamps use very little electricity, so its okay to leave it on all the time. It’s not recommended to keep your lamps in any area of your house that is particularly wet, such as near a shower or sink. If you live in a more humid environment, keeping it on may not be enough to keep it dry and you should occasional wipe it down with an absorbent lint-free towel. If being placed on wooden furniture, it’s best to use a mat or plate underneath your salt lamp to prevent any damage potential moisture build up can cause. Get creative with it!
